One of SAM Inc.’s sponsored soccer teams, SM Galaxy from Ndirande district in Blantyre assisted an elderly woman named Ms. Hanna Dinesi. In keeping with their commitment to community service, SM Galaxy chose to help Ms. Dinesi by preparing her field with maize seed before the rainy season. By leveling the soil and planting the maize, they ensured an abundance of food for both the Dinesi family and families residing within her village.
Ms. Dinesi was born in 1906, and is now 102 years old. She had 7 children, 5 of which have since passed away. She lives with her son Godfrey who is unemployed and takes care of his mother. Ms. Dinesi and Godfrey were honored with the surprise they received when SM Galaxy not only donated 2 blankets, a bag of maize flour, sugar, salt & soap valued at Kwacha 20,000, but began working and preparing the field for planting.
SM Galaxy continues to shine not only on the soccer field as a team, but in the community as excellent examples of grass roots development. Their community service is an essential quality SAM Inc looks for when supporting soccer teams in Malawi. They understand it is not enough to be involved in sports, but one must translate their skill and effort on the field into excellence in the community. Recognizing such efforts, SAM Inc and others will enthusiastically support the development of similar football clubs in Malawi.
